GUIRunOnce Commands not working

$

All, I am using SCVMM 2012 SP1.  I have created a VM Template and on the OS Configuration tab I have added a Powershell script that I would like run at first logon.  The problem is there is no visibility as to the script running, no error information I can see.  The Powershell script is NOT running no matter what I do.  The first command in the GUIRunOnce Commands is a Robocopy command to copy the Powershell script to the local C: drive of the newly created VM - this is being executed.  It seems like the only thing that is NOT working is running a Powershell script.  I cannot seem to figure out what is wrong, due to the aforementioned lack of error reporting.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

VMMSERVICE crashes when attempting to delete a missing VM ... pretty sure this was not the case before RU2 ...  What a mess !  When using RDS in 2012 VM's get created and deleted  when creating or removing VM pools... this leaves a HUGE mess in SCVMM...  :(   Ideas ?

Can't P2V any server on evalution version

Server has IIS but no 443, it was a previous attempt to P2V but VM Agent has been removed.

I have changed port with no luck.

About ready to rebuild server again from scratch.   Server is only running Hyper-V and scvmm with all updates

There is already an SSL certificate associated with port 443 on machine tbcdc03.

Ensure that no application on machine tbcdc03 listens for HTTP traffic on TCP port 443 during the conversion. Alternatively use registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager Server\Settings\P2VBITSTcpPort on the VMM server to change the P2V transfer port number and add the necessary firewall rule for TCP port 443 on machine tbcdc03.

Error deploying a virtual machine template related to Microsoft Virtual Floppy Disk.

$

Hi,

I have a template that I've used numerous times to deploy VMs from Virtual Machine Manager (2008 R2).  I recently started getting the following error message:

Error (12700)
VMM cannot complete the Hyper-V operation on the "hvhost.com" server because of the error: 'newvm' failed to add device 'Microsoft Virtual Floppy Disk'. (Virtual machine ID EDEA2F9E-662A-4895-BF93-818F36E18510)

'newvm': Attachment 'C:\ClusterStorage\Win2k8 Dev-1\newvm\newvm.vfd' not found. Error: 'The system cannot find the file specified.' (0x80070002). (Virtual machine ID EDEA2F9E-662A-4895-BF93-818F36E18510)
 (Unknown error (0x8003))

Recommended Action
Resolve the issue in Hyper-V and then try the operation again.

I have not specified a VFD as part of this template.  I have also tried to manually create a VFD in the folder and restart the job, but it then gives the following error:

Error (1240)

The file C:\ClusterStorage\Win2k8 Dev-1 \newvm\newvm.vfd is already present on server hvhost.com.

Recommended Action
Move the file C:\ClusterStorage\
Win2k8 Dev-1\newvm\newvm.vfd to a different location, and then try the operation again.

It actually deletes the VFD file that I created, and if I try to restart the job, it goes back to the original error.

The net effect is that I am left with a VM in a failed state and am unable to do anything but delete it.

Hi,

I have a strange behavior:

My physical host runns Hyper-V and SCVMM. The Lib shar is local on the machine and shared through a former Beta 3 installation of SCVMM.

SCVMM runs under SQL 2008

In the Lib share I have a folder called ISOs and hosts all my needed ISO files for mounting.

I create a new VM an will mount the install iso to the VM and choose Exisitng image file. Ich brows to the iso and choose it. I activate Share image file instead of copying it.

Wenn I apply, then I get following ERROR.

Error (12700)

VMM cannot complete the Hyper-V operation on the OCGDE0HV01.OCGDE.CORP server because of the error: 'VM' failed to add device 'Microsoft Virtual CD/DVD Disk'. (Virtual machine ID 6B4D7AAE-4FAE-483C-A95C-BC792CED6B70)

'VM': The machine account 'Domain\SERVERNAME$' does not have read access to file share '\\ServerName.DOMAIN.CORP\MSSCVMMLibrary\ISOs\en_W2k3_x64.iso'. Please add this machine account to the file share security. Error: 'General access denied error' (0x80070005). (Virtual machine ID 6B4D7AAE-4FAE-483C-A95C-BC792CED6B70)

(Unknown error (0x8001))

Recommended Action

Resolve the issue in Hyper-V and then try the operation again.

It seems some have solved the problem by adding the machine account of the physical host to the share and NTFS-permissions of the library, but that doesn't work for me.

Any Solutions from you guys?

I apprichiate it, to get a fast solution, I need it for production!!!!!

Thanks

Josef

SCVMM install error

I installed the latest beta release of SCVMM. It made it all the way through the pre-req tests and during the final 'installation' phase it errored out with this:

An error has occurred while trying to configure Virtual Machine Manager. Uninstall Virtual Machine Manager from Add or Remove Programs and then run Setup again.

ID: 257. Details: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done

I checked the error log and found this at the end:

(String file, String userAccountName)
   at Microsoft.VirtualManager.Setup.Configuration.DBConfigurator.CreateDB(Boolean onRemoteServer)
   at Microsoft.VirtualManager.Setup.Wizard.Configurator.CreateDB()
   at Microsoft.VirtualManager.Setup.Wizard.Configurator.AddDB()

   at Microsoft.VirtualManager.Setup.Wizard.VMInstaller.Configure()
   at Microsoft.VirtualManager.Setup.Wizard.ProgressPage.InstallerThreadEntry()
*** Carmine error was: VMSetupConfigurationError (257); WindowsAPI

I did as told and uninstalled, rebooted and re-installed. The same error occured.

I searched the error on the inet and no luck finding anything.

The system is a Dell 2950, dual quads, 4GB RAM, 100GB free drive space.

Hyper-v is installed and running with a couple of children. IIS is also installed. No other roles.

Any ideas what I can do?

I'm unable to install SCVMM 08 beta.

Gets to Virtual Machine Manager Server section, Add library part, then I get the message :

"SetupVM.exe has stopped working"

I'm installing to a local sql server express edition. I previously had SCVMM 07 on here, and had removed it before installing 08.

VMM is unable to complete the request. The connection to the agent SERV.Computers.amrita-parus.ru was lost.

Ensure that the WMI service and the agent are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTP and WMI traffic.

SCVMM 2012 SP1 (RTM) Deployment from VMM Console fails.

Error During a library refresh, or deployment from template - It all fails:

Error (12710)
VMM does not have appropriate permissions to access the Windows Remote Management resources on the server (MyServer).
Unknown error (0x80338105)

Recommended Action
1) Ensure that the Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) service is running on the server (myserver).
2) If the System Center Virtual Machine Manager service on your VMM management server is configured to run by using the machine account, ensure that there is not a group policy that does not allow adding machine accounts to a computer's Administrators group. If there is, you can use one of the following workarounds:
  - Disable the group policy in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)
  - Modify the group policy to allow the VMM machine account in the Administrators group
  - Move the machine account to its own organizational unit (OU) and block the group policy from being applied
  - Reinstall the VMM management server and choose the option to run the System Center Virtual Machine Manager service by using a domain account, and re-add all of your virtual machines.

So, as soon as SCVMM 2012 Sp1 was released we decided that it was best to upgrade so we could utilise the new features of Server 2012 as a host.

The upgrade worked a treat. VM's deployed, Server 2012 worked. Anyway, a few days after deployment we start to see errors relating to WinRM and permissions (See end of the post). After a quick trace around we found some failed services, usually on a host but sometimes it seemed to happen on the Library/Management server as well.

So, our setup is as follows:

Management/Library server = VMware  VM, Server 2012 standard, 6 GB memory, 4 vCPU's

Hosts = HP DL360p G7, HP DL360 Gen8 (we have a few of these), Server 2012. We also have a DL380 G7 on Server 2008 R2 Enterprise that fails as well, so it seems the error isn't O/S specific (I'm picking a VMM issue).

So I have tried many resolutions and now none of them work.

We have no restrictions on group policy for the local admin, this can be set manually, and works for that matter.

WinRM is working and the listening port is 5985 (I can see it working and listening via a "netstat -an")

Also, I have ensured many many times that all of the required services are up and running (SCVMMAgent, VirtualDisk managerment, WinRM) and initially these where at fault and a simple restart of each service (or even a full start from dead) fixed it - Now it all fails. Even a library refresh fails. And all while each of the services required are up and running.

SCVMM 2008 Beta + Hyper-V RTM = Problem for add host

Hello everybody!

Sorry for my English, I am French.

I have installed the following components on only one host:

  • • Active Directory Domain / DNS
  • • Hyper-V (RTM)
  • • SCVMM Beta 2008 :
  • o Server VMM
  • o Console VMM
  • o Update Server VMM

After the console was installed, I wanted to add this host in the console SCVMM, and it works.

But, SCVMM always display: “Needs Attention”.

In the panel Property >> Status on the host, I have:

  • Connection Status : Not responding
  • Agent version : Up-To-Date
  • Virtualization service status : Unknown
  • Virtualization service version : Up-To-Date

When I click on “refresh”, the job is running, and finishes by return :

“Error (500)

Could not retrieve configuration data from the virtual machine host HYPER.vt.local.

(The operation completed successfully (0x0))

Recommended Action

Verify that Windows Management Instrumentation, Windows Remote Management (WS-Management), Virtual Server, and Virtual Machine Manager Agent services are running on HYPER.vt.local. Then try the operation again.”

I’m confirm that these services run on the host.

Could someone help me ?

Thank You!

VMM R2 Management console credentials / certificate? issue

$

HI,

We have an issue with our VMM management console on a Windows 7 Enterprise (x64) machine joined to domain.com.

The console can connect the VMM server (vmmserver.domain.com) perfectly but when clicking on a VM in the console we get a popup saying:

"Your credentials did not work"
"The credentials that were used to connect to hypervserver1.domain.com did not work. Please enter new credentials"

When i enter my domain credentials again, i get another popup from RDP about a certificate problem:

"Remote Desktop Connection"
"A certification authority could not be contacted for authentication.
If you are using a Remote Desktop Gateway with a smart card, try connecting
to the remote computer using a password.
For assistance, contact your administrator or technical support"

After clicking "OK" (the only button available) i see "Virtual Machine Manager lost the connection to the virtual machine" and shortly after i get prompted again for credentials.

The funny thing is that if i authenticate using the local administrator credentials of hypervserver1.domain.com it goes through without a problem and i can see the cpu usage and desktop and connect to the VM just fine. Just to be clear, hypervserver1.domain.com is domain joined and we don't use smart cards. Also, all updates for hyper-v and scvmm are installed on all relevant machines through MS update. We have this issue when clicking on any VM located on any of our hyper-v servers.

All servers run windows 2008 R2 x64

i've tried the following:

Working off a suggestion i found on the web, adding the self-signed certificate of hypervserver1.domain.com (sc-vmm etc cert) to the correct local stores on the win7 machine. but this did not allow us to use our domain credentials, only local admin credentials work.

After searching the forum for similar issues most seemed to be resolved by this:

---

    * Run GPEDIT.MSC on the host
    * Expand Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Credentials Delegation
    * Double-click Allow Saved Credentials with NTLM-only Server Authentication
    * Enable the policy
    * Add servers to the list by clicking the Show button and adding your hostname
    * Click OK twice and close Local Group Policy Editor

Now run GPUPDATE on the  host to apply the new settings.

Connect to one of the Hyper-V guests, enter your username and password, and check the Remember my credentials checkbox. Hyper-V will no longer prompt for credentials when connecting to any of the guest VMs.

--

I've added the following hostname : *hypervserver1.domain.com

While i check the box to save my credentials it just shows the RDP certificate problem popup if i use my domain credentials and i get a new prompt for credentials same as before. If i save the local administrator credentials then they get saved and used every time i click on a VM located on hypervserver.domain.com so i don't get prompted again but this is not what we want. We want to be able to connect using our domain creds without being prompted and preferably without having to save them.

i can't really find any useful information regarding that rdp certificate issue.

It's been driving us insane. Any ideas?

Coonect remotely to the SCVMM

Are there any powershell scripts present that we can run remotely from a different machine other that the one on which SCVMM is present and connect to the SCVMM and discover all the vms configured under the SCVMM?

Connection Status: not Responding SCVMM '08

$

I just installed SCVMM 2008 on a Windows 2008 x64 server with Hyper-V RC0 Enabled. From the console on the server it says "Needs Attention" and when I double click on it, it says

Connection Status: Not Responding

Agent Version: Up to Date

Virtualization Status: Unknown

Virtualization Service Version: Up-to-Date

The firewall is turned on for public network only, and I can connect to manage that box with the hyper-v mmc snap-in for Vista. Why is SCVMM not connecting to it? I rebooted the server after install and still can't get it to work correctly. It sees my VMs on the server but I can't connect to them either.

Thanks,

Chris

Virtual Network Not Highly Available

Since upgrading SCVMM 2012 to SP1 one of my virtual network is now not highly available and I don't know why....

I have 4 virtual networks, the one I am having problems with appears under Properties -> Virtual Switches of each node in the cluster.  I've checked that the names of the virtual networks are identical on each of the 4 nodes that are part of the cluster, they are.

When I attempt to select network I am having problems with on the hardware properties of the VM, the virtual switch is not populated.

What am I missing?

Cheers

Adam.

Unsupported VM Configuration

$

Having fought hard with the problem of failover clustering VMs with Pass through disks I now have 2 VM's, both with PT disks working perfectly on a 2 node cluster. I created and configured these machines using Hyper-V manager and Failover Cluster Manager, not with VMM.

I now see both the VM's in VMM but one of them has a status of 'Unsupported VM Configuration', hence it can't be managed using VMM.

The other VM is fine in VMM.

The one clue I have is when I click 'View networking' on the good machine in VMM I see the graphical representation of the VM NIC to vSwitch #1. Howver on the failing VM there is no network connection link between the VM NIC and vSwitch #2, even though this network config exists and is valid.

Both machines are operating fine and failover between the nodes is faultless.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve this?

Thanks

Getting this message when trying to start the SCVMM 08 Admin console from the same machine that SCVMM 08 is installed on:

I'm on a domain, and i've added the domain admins and the administrator account to all three of the SCVMM groups. I'm still unable to connect. Unlike the other posters, it doesn't matter what I put in the connect box. I'm unable to use the IP address nor the hostname.

Slow Creating a Blank VM

VMM 2008 on Server 2008 - Host is Server 2008 Hyper-V

I'm finding that when I create a new VM, it is hanging at the 'Install VM Components' Stage (1.6). Around 10 minutes +.

However, if I log onto the Host, and create a new VM using HperV Manager, it creates the VM in just a few seconds.

Is there any way I can stop VMM from trying to do the 'Install VM Components' Step, or at least speed it up?

My guess is that it cant install VM Components because it is a blank HDD.
